At Tiny Cloud we believe that children learn through play and social interactions. We believe children learn best through meaningful play. Our play-based, child centered program reflects the integration of physical, cognitive, social, emotional, math and language domains. Meaningful play encourages curiosity, discovery and problem solving which allows individual growth and development of a positive self-image.

Behavior and Guidance Policy

Purpose

At Tiny Cloud Bilingual, we believe that children need simple, consistent, and age-appropriate limits and rules that they can understand. Our goal is to provide a safe, positive, and respectful environment where every child can learn, develop their skills, and express their feelings and needs.

Behavior guidance will always be provided in a respectful, positive, and developmentally appropriate manner.

 

Rules and Expectations

It is important to speak to children in a direct, clear, and simple manner so they can understand and remember the classroom rules and expectations.

Visual support is an important tool to help children understand routines, rules, and expectations. These resources will be used properly to support communication and

promote children's independence.

 

The Environment as a Learning Tool

The environment plays an important role in children's care, learning, and development. A clean, accessible, organized, and safe environment allows children to learn and develop their skills.

At Tiny Cloud Bilingual, daily activities will be prepared in advance and designed to be engaging and meaningful for children. Activities should encourage curiosity, creativity, exploration, and learning.

Materials will be accessible and easy for children to use. Because we work with mixed-age groups, materials and activities must be provided that are appropriate for the different age and developmental age levels of the children.

Having appropriate and enough materials available for the entire group helps minimize conflicts, encourages cooperation, and supports a smooth daily routine.

 

Positive Communication and Recognition

It is important to recognize children's effort, work, and learning. Educators should engage in conversations with children, listen to their ideas, questions, and concerns, and ask questions that help them better understand the children's thoughts and interests.

Positive, clear, and age-appropriate language will be used when communicating with children. Educators should make sure that children understand directions and have opportunities to express what they feel or need.

Every child is different and may require different types of support. For this reason, educators must observe and respond to each child's individual needs.

 

Prevention and Behavior Guidance

At Tiny Cloud Bilingual, preventive measures are taken to reduce the possibility of behavior problems occurring. Educators should anticipate potential difficulties and provide guidance before a situation develops into a conflict.

When necessary, logical and natural consequences related to a child's behavior will be explained. Educators may:

• Clearly explain expectations.

• Offer appropriate choices.

• Use positive redirection.

• Help children identify and express their feelings.

• Teach appropriate alternatives for handling a situation.

• Provide time and support for children to regulate themselves and make appropriate choices.

Positive redirection is an important guidance strategy. When a behavior is inappropriate, the educator may redirect the child's attention toward another activity, material, or appropriate way to participate, especially during play or conflict situations.

 

Validation of Feelings and Emotions

At Tiny Cloud Bilingual, we recognize that children have individual needs, feelings, and emotions. Validating children's feelings is an important part of behavior guidance and social-emotional development. Educators should listen to and acknowledge children's emotions while helping them develop appropriate strategies for expressing themselves and managing difficult situations. Observation is a fundamental tool for early childhood educators. Through observation, educators can identify each child's individual needs, understand possible reasons behind certain behaviors, and determine what type of support may be most effective.

 

Positive Relationships and Secure Attachment

Educators must develop positive relationships and establish secure attachments with the children in their care. Trust, respect, and communication are essential for creating an environment where children feel safe, valued, and supported.

Conflicts between children may occur as a natural part of their development. During these situations, educators should support children in learning how to:

• Solve problems peacefully.

• Take turns.

• Share and cooperate.

• Express their needs and feelings.

• Be kind to others.

• Respect their peers and adults.

• Find appropriate solutions to conflicts.

The goal is not only to stop inappropriate behavior, but also to teach children skills that they can use in future situations.

Equality, Respect, and Prevention of Bias

 

All children must be treated fairly and respectfully and must be protected from discrimination.

If a situation involving bias, racism, discrimination, or any other behavior that may negatively affect a child occurs, the responsible person must be informed, and appropriate steps must be taken to guide those involved and prevent similar situations from happening again.

Staff members must promote an inclusive environment where all children are respected and valued regardless of their individual, cultural, or family differences.

 

Responsibilities of the Provider and Caregivers

The provider must ensure that only the caregivers and educators responsible for the children's care provide behavior guidance.

All behavior guidance must be:

• Fair: Taking into consideration each child's individual needs.

• Consistent: Applied consistently in similar situations.

• Timely: Provided at the appropriate time.

• Appropriate: Related to the behavior being addressed.

• Age- and developmentally appropriate: Considering each child's skills and abilities.

• Respectful and positive: Without humiliation, threats, or practices that compromise the child's dignity.

 

Support and Seeking Assistance

Educators must understand appropriate strategies for working with children and recognize when a situation requires additional support.

When an educator encounters a problem that cannot be resolved independently, they must seek guidance or assistance from DELC, following the procedures established by Tiny Cloud Bilingual. The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all children receive respectful and consistent guidance within a safe, positive, and inclusive environment.
